Instructors: 

Bill Brenner is the Sr. Director Club and Coach Development of U.S. Masters Swimming. He has over 35 years of experience coaching swimming at the age group, college and Masters levels. A USMS certified level 4 Masters coach, Bill has been involved in the evolution of the USMS Masters coach certification courses curricula and has taught hundreds of classes to thousands of Masters coaches. Bill established the USMS Adult learn-to-swim certification program and serves as an ALTS lead instructor. With the knowledge acquired from coaching 20-30 Masters swim clinics each year, Bill recently wrote the USMS Clinic Course for Coaches, teaching Masters coaches how to run a successful USMS stroke development clinic. Bill serves as an ambassador and advocate for USMS by visiting hundreds of existing clubs and workout groups, establishing new Masters programs, speaking at national aquatics conferences and maintaining relationships with strategic partners such as USA-Swimming, USA-Triathlon, Y-USA, LifeTime Fitness and the Kroc Centers. Prior to joining USMS as a staff member, Bill served USMS as a volunteer at the local and national level. He has been a swim meet director, support team staff member and coach at his local program, the Sarasota YMCA Sharks Masters. Bill enjoys sharing his passion for swimming with others by encouraging adults to swim for life.

Mel Goldstein is the founder and head coach of Indy Aquatic Masters in Indianapolis, Indiana with over 300 registered Masters swimmers. Currently, IAM host Masters practices at seven locations including high schools, private clubs, JCCs, university and college campuses with new locations on the horizon. Mel hosts local, regional and national meets. Mel has hosted seven USMS National Championships with Indianapolis scheduled to host the 2024 USMS Spring Nationals.
Mel’s accolades include the 2001 Speedo U.S. Masters Coach of the year and the 1997 Ransom J. Arthur M.D. Award that goes annually to a person who best supports the objectives of Masters swimming and is the highest honor bestowed by U. S. Masters Swimming. He is a past President of USMS, Board of Directors member and a USMS All American with 255 individual top ten achievements. In 2012, he was inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame.

Requirements
  • You must be a current USMS Member to participate in the course and receive USMS certification.
  • You must be a USMS certified Level 1 Masters coach. If you have not completed the online Level 1 Masters coach certification, you may find out more about this virtual class here.
Certification Process
Upon successful completion of the classroom coursework, including all required applications and successfully completed tests, each person will be awarded USMS Level 2 Certified Masters Coach certification.

Fees
$200 for Level 2 course.

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 30.

Who should attend?
Current full-time, part-time, volunteer coaches or anyone interested in becoming a Masters coach. Anyone interested in starting or supporting a Masters program.

Scholarships
Oregon LMSC members are eligible to receive 50% registration fee reimbursement upon successful completion of the class. Forms for reimbursement will be available at the class.

You must have completed Levels 1&2 of the USMS Masters coach certification program and be a current USMS Member to participate in the course.

Clinic Course for Coaches - Vancouver, WA

U.S. Masters Swimming is hosting a USMS "How-to put on a clinic" course for coaches on Saturday and Sunday, November 15th & 16th, 2025 in Vancouver, WA.

The USMS Clinic Course for Coaches, offered by USMS Club and Coach Services, instructs the Masters coach or adult learn-to-swim instructor how to conceptualize, organize and deliver a stroke development clinic (SDC). The course consists of both a classroom and on-deck component. The registration for the clinic course is limited to 12 coaches per class. Prerequisites
You must be a Masters coach who has successfully completed Level 1, or higher, of the USMS Masters coach certification or be a USMS-certified adult learn-to-swim instructor. Current USMS membership is also required.

Fees
$60.00 per coach. USMS-designated Masters coaches and designated certified ALTS instructors receive a $10 discount during the online registration process.

Maximum
Maximum attendance is 12 coaches.

Who should attend?
Certified Masters coaches who want to develop the skills and resources necessary to host a successful stroke development clinic. ALTS instructors who want to learn stroke-development drills and techniques to use with advanced-beginner swimmers.

Scholarships
Oregon LMSC members are eligible to receive 50% registration fee reimbursement upon successful completion of the class. Forms for reimbursement will be available at the class.
